Freel Captures Low Net At Sunnyside

Kenn Freel edged Bob Wyrick in a card off for low net honors at our October tournament at Sunnyside Country Club in Fresno. Freel and Wyrick both had net 75s and third place went to Dean Glass (76). Dick Trotter's 77 was fourth.

MBGFR President Tom McKinney won low gross honors with an 86 and Glass won a card off for second with a gross 87.

Long drive bragging rights went to Mike Derr and John Hans had the closest to the flagstick on number 6.

The 16 contestants report that Sunnyside is a very well conditioned older valley course. Thanks to Rod Coburn for hosting this tournament.

MBGFR Boasts Another National Champion

Richard Ahart
, a new MBGFR member from Pacific Grove, was crowned the Unitied States Golfing Fellowship of Rotarians (USGFR) National Champion following the 21st annual National Tournament held September 20-24 in South Lake Tahoe. 

Ahart, playing in Division 2, led all 60 golfers in net Stableford points for the tournament.

Geary Engles teamed with Pat Clarke of Alexandria, Virginia for second place in the two person team competition.

Other tournament winners included MBGFR President Tom McKinney, second place in Division 1,  and Jim Pescatore, third place in Division 1 and closest to the pin. Pescatore was also named USGFR Pacific Region Director. He fills the position vacated by Mike Laughlin, who has been elected USGFR President.

This year's national tournament was played on three challenging golf courses--the Lakes and Ranch courses in Genoa, Nevada and Edgewood at Lake Tahoe.
