Jim Brock cleans up in the desert

Jim BrockMBGFR Charter Member and desert resident Jim Brock posted net rounds of 71 and 68 enroute to a seven stroke victory at our annual Desert Two Day tournament in Palm Desert on January 16 and 17.

Because of COVID 19 pandemic restrictions, we saw our field shrink to just 14 competitors this year but those who did participate enjoyed spectacular weather and beauiful courses at Desert Willow in Palm Desert.

On Day One on the Desert Willow Mountain View tract, Mike Laughlin (76-70), another desert resident, edged Brock (90-71) for first place and Bob Wyrick (85-73) was third. Laughlin also was closest to the flagstick on hole 13 and Matt Larson, a guest of Geary Engles, won the closest to the flagstick money on hole 11.

On Sunday, players moved to the tougher Firecliff course and Brock (88-68) was first followed by Rob Hall (85-73) and Jerry Schock (89-75). Laughlin (hole 3) and Larson (hole 14) again took home closest to the flagstick money.

Trailing Brock (139) for the overall money was Mike Laughlin (146) and Rob Hall (148).

A number of participants played a Friday practice round at MBGFR-favorite Eagle Falls Golf Club at Fantasy Springs Casino in indio.

Although the pandemic kept us from enjoying a group dinner or cocktail party, competitors did manage to enjoy plenty of socially distanced Rotary Fellowship.

Plans are now underway for a spring event in the Monterey area. As we all know, pandemic restrictions change at the whim of our Governor so we'll keep everyone posted as soon as we have dates and a venue. Stay tuned and plan to join us!
